Cancer: not a random thing

Just to bring you up to speed if you have not heard, I have been diagnosed some form of cancer that is residing in lower portion of the tongue. Diagnosis of the particular type of cancer has been inconclusive to this point. I have a biopsy of the lower left tongue on Thursday, January 29th. That should make things clearer. The doctors at this point think the cancer is treatable. But all of that is in God’s hands. There is some discomfort to date, some soreness and some difficulty swallowing.

It is a huge comfort for me, as it was with Ruth, to know that cancer, or any other event in life, is not random. Life is not a series of disconnected, impersonal random events. God has purpose and glory behind every thing that he does.

Jesus was amazed at the Centurion in Luke 7 who acknowledged the sovereign hand of God in sickness. I, too, want the comfort of the Centurion’s faith. I ask that you would pray with me for that faith.

I will keep you posted. Thank you for your prayers and friendship!
